I was born in Cuba, my family lost everything due to the communist revolution. We were fortunate

enough to migrate to Spain. Now I live in Rancho Cucamonga. I have always had a fascination with lines,

shapes and forms. I was one of those kids who doodled on paper, homework, mail, anything I could

write on. When we settled in La Verne in the early 70’s, my parents got me a sketch pad and pencils. It

was like gasoline to fire; I could not put it down. My uncle, Oscar would fly from New York to visit our

family and he would rave about my sketches. He even bought one or two for a few dollars. Even though

it was a few dollars it made me think that people like and would collect my art. It made me feel as if the

artist in me was important, I was waking up to the passion for art. I took the traditional art classes in

High School and experimented with acrylics. I did several paintings that are still with me. My parents got

me a private tutor for art classes after school. When I went to the University of La Verne in the 80’s I

took art classes with Joella Jean Mahone. She was a published artist with collectors. She was free and I

was rigid in style and execution of my artistic output. She gave me some exercises to open me up and I

started painting faster and with added freedom. In 1999 there was a van Gogh exhibit at the Los Angeles

County Museum of Art. I went and was a bit shell shocked as I became aware of an artist that painted in

very similar fashion to mine. My biggest artistic influences are Vincent van Gogh, Marc Chagall, Henri

Matisse and others such artist. I feel we have similar artistic DNA. My paintings are bold, loud, and

shiny. I apply my paint on the canvas in indiscriminate thick globs. The last 25 years I have painted

almost exclusively in oils. Back in 1999 I started numbering all my canvases. I am currently working on

canvas number 859. I have sold many of my paintings and donated others. I am part of two museums,

the Audie Murphy Cotton Museum in Texas and the Chaffey Community Museum of Art in Ontario. My

art is a calling, I am inspired to paint the topics and subjects I invest my time in. Most of my topics are

floral and landscapes, but there are others as well.
